Material safety matters more than the marketing

Body-safe materials are non-negotiable. Medical-grade silicone, ABS plastic, and glass are non-porous and easy to clean. Materials like unlabeled “jelly” rubber or generic TPE can be porous, harder to sanitize, and sometimes contain phthalates — always check what a toy is actually made of, not just how it's marketed.

What to look for

• Motor type — a linear motor is typically stronger and quieter than a rotational one
• Waterproof rating (IPX7 for fully submersible, IPX4 for splash-only)
• Charging — magnetic USB-C tends to hold up better long-term than proprietary cradles
• Noise level, which varies a lot between similar-looking products
• Warranty and return policy, since fit is personal and hard to judge from photos
